Le château de Gaillon, le premier de style Renaissance en France, a remplacé un château médiéval. Propriété de l'archevêché de Rouen et résidence d'été, il a été transformé par l'archevêque Georges d'Amboise en "palais italien" au début du 16e siècle.

The castle of Gaillon, the first of Renaissance style in France, replaced a medieval castle. Owned by the Archbishop of Rouen and a summer residence, it was transformed by Archbishop Georges d'Amboise into an "Italian palace" at the beginning of the 16th century.
