Cette représentation de héros maitrisant un lion a été retrouvée à Khorsabad dans l'ancienne Assyrie (aujourd'hui au Kurdistan d'Irak), et pourrait représenter Gilgamesh, le célèbre roi d'Uruk dont l'épopée est d'origine sumérienne.

This representation of heroes mastering a lion was found in Khorsabad in ancient Assyria (today in Kurdistan of Iraq), and could represent Gilgamesh, the famous king of Uruk whose epic is from Sumerian origin.

Cette salle présente des antiquités sumériennes, principalement issues des fouilles françaises effectuées à Tello, l'ancienne Girsu Lagash en Irak, le site qui a permis de découvrir la civilisation sumérienne. De nombreuses statues y sont exposées, notamment la collection représentant Gudea, un prince (patesi) qui a vécu à la fin du 3e millénaire avant notre ère.

This room presents Sumerian antiquities, mainly from French excavations carried out in Tello, the ancient Girsu Lagash in Iraq, the site that made it possible to discover the Sumerian civilization. Many statues are exhibited, including the collection representing Gudea, a prince (patesi) who lived at the end of the 3rd millennium BC.

Il est paré du collier de la Légion d'Honneur".
